Silent Hill: Homecoming review

  • Jul. 19th, 2009 at 12:16 AM

I beat Silent Hill: Homecoming yesterday. I know that I got one of the bad endings, obviously, but it was kind of a let down...the second half of the game, the part that actually takes place in Silent Hill felt more like a Hostel spinoff than a Silent Hill game...it had it's moments, but it just sort of...fell apart at the end. The final boss was totally wicked, but does that make up for almost an hour of gameplay with no fog, no darkness, and no creatures?

Not really.

So here it is...my final verdict on Silent Hill: Homecoming. There are spoilers here, so don't read if you haven't beaten it or if you don't want anything ruined.

Cut for geekbabble and slight spoilers )

Overall Review: 7.5/10

A good game, really...but the end didn't give me that final stamping realization like the others in the series did. And the presence of the movie fills this game so much that it's almost puking Gans and Avery (director and writer of the movie, respectively). I wasn't so much dissapointed in how it played or how it looked, but as to how it ended. I dunno, I've always completed the others on a Good ending, so maybe it deserves another play-through....I give it a replay value of 8, maybe 8.5 out of 10. If you're a fan of Silent Hill and love the series, check this out, but don't waste your money until you've played it through a bit. If you like survival horror but aren't devoted to the fandom like the rest of us geeks, check this game out, you may just have found a gateway to a darker world...the world of Silent Hill.

Mom just called me into her room to talk...

Jolee, our german sheperd, went to the vet today. She's been REALLY sick recently. After a rediculous amount of testing, they found that she has a degenerative nerve disorder that makes her lower body stop working, and her hip joints were literally wearing out. They used a cathader to drain her bladder and got a gallon of liquid...And she won't get better. Mom and Dad broke the news that she won't be coming home today. Thank you to everyone that sent good vibes, juju, prayers, whatever...

I am so full of regret and sorrow that I could burst.

I'm gonna miss that damn dog.

Help needed...

  • Jun. 16th, 2009 at 10:10 PM

Our dog is sick. Not just ill, I mean really really sick. I don't want to and don't feel like I can post too much about it here, because that's not really my place, but I am asking for help. Prayers, good juju, "hey, man, it's ok," anything. We've had her for a while, and though it hasn't been easy...she really is a part of this family. Please pray for her to the deity of your choice.

Stolded from Kimdot

1. Anyone who looks at this entry  is politely requested to post this meme and their current wallpaper at their LiveJournal if they wish to do so

2. Explain in five sentences why you're using that wallpaper:

  • I really like this album.
  • I really like the image on this album. I almost used the "Still Life" cover (That's my favorite Opeth album), but I liked this image even better.
  • Opeth are my favorite band.
  • This was on my computer before it died, and is now on my brother's computer on my profile.
  • "The Funeral Portrait," a song from Blackwater Park, is one of my favorite songs.

3. Don't change your wallpaper before doing this! The point is to see what you had on!

Starting Thursday night, I began watching season 1 of the Tudors which, while not historically accurate, is MARVELOUSLY entertaining. You know that you have spent too much time at Faire, however, when the softcore porn and sex sequences do not bother you, but when Henry and Anne dance during court, you watch them and go "Wow, that's dirty..." I even called Queen Katherine a "scandalous floozy" when she bared her BARE FEET and ankles getting out of a carriage to go and pray. TO GO PRAY!

Friday, with very little sleep, I performed normal duties about the house and wasted most of the day. At about 1:30, Dad sent me to go get lettuce, so as to have some for the hamburgers he was fixing for lunch. Seeing as he was already preparing the grill, I knew that I did not have much time, and should speed my way towards Supersave with haste. I donned my helmet, mounted my bike (stop the dirty thoughts RIGHT NOW!), and rode off to the market to fetch the green leaves that my father required. I purchased them, then began riding home. However, as I was crossing Robert's Cut Off, the chain on my bike popped off of the gear, and the bike toppled out from under me. In the middle of a heavily-used road, with a car quickly approaching, I faceplanted and bruised both my knees. The right knee (which, of course, is my bad knee) hit the ground first, tore a hole in my jeans, and the asphalt promptly removed more than the top layer of skin in more than one area.  My other knee was not as badly hurt, but still struck earth hard. I grabbed both the bike and the lettuce and ran off the road. The driver that had been approaching stopped to make sure I was capable of movement and didn't need assistance. I bade him thanks and said that I was still fit to ride. That was, of course, a foolish thing to say, and I should have phoned for assistance, but I instead thanked him again and rode off, the entire way home.

I wore a knee brace for nearly the rest of the weekend, and I have hardly any skin on my right kneecap. It hurts.AAAAAAAAAAAaaanyway, when I had the chance...The lyrics that I had recently written I began to set to music (which is going swimmingly...which is odd...which is good, in and of itself), and I began reading "The Two Towers; Being the Second Part of the Lord of the Rings." Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday, I spent at my grandmother's house in Springtown, and while she has satalite TV, many of the creature comforts that I have here at home were not available. I was isolated from xBox, my DVD collection, my music library, the ps2, the internet...and it was GLORIOUS. I needed time away. Not only did I spend time outdoors in the open country, I moved fencing panels (manual labor at Granny's house is healing, strangely), and I finished not only the Two Tower, but the Return of the King, as well. Tonight, I have finished watching season 1 of The Tudors, and I cannot wait to watch season two. I believe that this show, coupled with my reading of the LOTR series and my beginning of reading "The Autobiography of Henry the VIII, with notes from his fool, Will Somerset" resulted in the rediculously structured, over-flowery livejournal post that you, my reader, have just...read.

Now, being 2 in the morning, I must sleep so that I can begin searching for work tomorrow. I apologize if my rantings were an eyesore and a headache to trudge through.

Subway: Eat Flesh.

  • Jun. 10th, 2009 at 12:07 PM

No, you didn't read that wrong. It says flesh.

I finished it! I took the subway song and turned it into death metal!!! And here it is, my triumphant return to recording...(not really...it's kind of anti-climactic...)

It's the little things that matter...

Earlier today, I took my acoustic down from the hanger on the wall and started playing because I felt like it (like ya do), and I started running through a couple of my older songs, the ones that I haven't played in a while. I started playing one of my favorites, and right after the second chorus, I noticed that mom was standing in the doorway. She looked at me and said "Is that one of yours?" I was like, "Yeah..."

She responded with "I like that song. It's a good song."

It definately bolstered my courage in my writing abilities...and I'm going to finish that damn acoustic album one day.

I very suddenly feel full of win...
